Subject: Support Good Government in Lakeland
In 1999, concerned residents spearheaded the formation of Partnership Lakeland (PL) to identify and support quality candidates who would work to ensure that Lakeland remains a desirable place to live and raise our families. The success of Partnership Lakeland is evidenced by the election of positive, hard working candidates from 1999 up the City Election in September 2009 with the election of Don Barber and Cecil Tompkins. That’s the good news. The bad news is that because most Lakeland residents are happy with our elected officials, we could become complacent, deferring to the mystical “someone else” to continue the efforts on our behalf.
Lakeland is a great place to live and we want it to remain that way! We don’t want to be a billboard community or one that allows commercial interests to be the sole determinant of how Lakeland will be developed. We need candidates who will balance residential and commercial needs and, above all, put Lakeland first when elected. We have been extremely fortunate to help elect just such individuals in recent years with your help through membership and donation.
The next City Election will be September 2011 but it is most important to build a financial reserve to properly support candidates selected by our membership. Despite challenging economic times, our PL membership is only $10 per person. Campaigns can be expensive; if you are in a position to give more, please consider making a donation.
